How to Fry an Egg
Frying an egg is easier than you think with these simple steps. Whether you prefer sunny-side up, over easy or over hard, we’ve broken down the steps to make it easy to enjoy a perfectly cooked egg whenever the mood strikes.
What You’ll Need:
- Nonstick skillet
- Butter, cooking oil (i.e. olive oil) or cooking spray
- Egg
- Spatula
- Salt and black pepper
Getting Started
Warm a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Melt butter, or heat cooking oil or spray 2–3 minutes. Next, decide how you want your egg. The type of egg helps determine cooking time.
Tip: Don’t forget to add a dash of salt and a few grinds of black pepper.
Sunny-Side Up
If you’re looking for an ooey-gooey yolk, this style is your best bet. And you don’t need to flip it! Crack the egg and cook 2–3 minutes. Once the egg white is set, slide the sunny-side-up egg onto a plate.
Over Easy
This style requires a flip, but still keeps the yolk runny. Crack the egg and cook 2–3 minutes on the first side until the egg white is set. Then, flip and cook about 30 seconds more before transferring to a plate.
Over Hard
No runny yolks? No problem. For this style, the egg is cooked on both sides until the egg white and yolk are set. Crack the egg and cook 2–3 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook 2 minutes more. Remove to a plate.
